WIRE BASKETS FOR SPRING TREE PLANTING

With the spring months upon us, it is time to have your nursery products ready. As you are making your preparations for another successful season, one key component of today’s nursery is the wire basket. Wire baskets from Dayton Bag & Burlap are made in house with a two-wire construction and continuous bottom. This helps to keep the root ball intact for optimal growth and transportation. With our state-of-the-art wire basket fabrication equipment, you can rest assured that you are getting a high quality product. We offer traditional wire baskets, wire windmills and Fanntum Containers to help satisfy the needs of any nursery.

At Dayton Bag & Burlap, we offer a wide variety of different types of conventional wire baskets, as different trees require different wire basket types. Our conventional baskets are made to fit a variety of different spades, simplifying the importing and exporting process of different types and sizes of trees. This will save time and optimize the efficiency and profitability of your nursery. When using conventional wire baskets, you will want to make sure that you have plenty of wire basket liners ready to help fully secure the root ball for the best health and maintenance of your inventory.

We also offer wire baskets for those who prefer hand digging. Our wire windmills fold easily and neatly around a tree’s root ball. Wire windmills are a great alternative to conventional wire baskets, as they will help your nursery save on both time and costs. When using wire windmills, you will want to make sure that you are also using burlap squares that wrap around the root ball of your tree and are secured by the wire windmill. This helps protect the health of the tree during transportation.

Dayton Bag & Burlap also offers our most versatile, above-ground growing container, known as the Fanntum Container. This container is a combination of a wire basket frame and a fabric covering. The wire basket helps form the skeleton of the container, while the fabric helps make up the skin. The outside fabric is Hog Ring stapled to the wire of the basket, ensuring that it will stay intact during growing and allows it to be removed prior to planting. The outer fabric should be removed before planting in the ground, leaving a nice, intact root ball system held together by the wire basket. The plant or tree is planted with the wire basket, providing more stability and optimal growth. Eventually, the wire basket will rust away leaving no ill side effects to the plant or soil.

Twine is a durable, light thread made up of two or more strands which are twisted together resulting in increased strength. We’ll cover how someone might use twine to support their plants and what the best practices are for doing so.

It’s Springtime again, and that means landscaping and gardening are back in full swing. However, before you lay down new mulch or soil, consider adding extra protection against weeds with a burlap sheet. Weeds can be a nuisance and can get worse as they grow and spread. Mulch and gravel can deter some of the weaker species but they aren’t perfect when it comes to more tenacious plants. A burlap layer can provide a screen that blocks unwanted weeds from robbing the nutrients from your soil. This, in turn, allows your plants to flourish.
